Every classified trail on Madeira
Live status: IFCNIFCN, the island's forestry and nature service, opens and closes the classified walking trails. We read its table every 6 hours and show it here in English, with IFCN's own notes. Partly open means only part of the trail is passable, and the note says which part.
The table shows today's status. For your date, what counts is your SIMplifica slot: book it first, and we time the drop to it. IFCN closes trails after storms, rockfalls and fires, sometimes at short notice, so we check your trail the evening before, and if IFCN has closed it, you choose a plan B route, a new date or a free cancellation.

Questions about Madeira's trails
Are the hiking trails in Madeira open today?
Most of them are, and the table above shows IFCN's status for every classified trail, read from its own table every 6 hours. IFCN closes trails after storms, rockfalls and fires and reopens them after repairs, so check again the evening before your walk.
What does partly open mean?
Only part of the trail is passable, and the note in the row says which part. Walk only that part and turn back where IFCN closes the path.
Do I need to pay or book to walk a trail?
Yes, on the classified trails you pay a fee per person, €4.50 on most of them, when you book a SIMplifica slot. The trail fees guide explains the passes and who walks free.
What happens to our transfer if IFCN closes the trail?
The evening before every hiking run we check your trail in the IFCN status table and message you what it shows. If IFCN closes your trail, you choose a plan B route, a new date or a free cancellation.
A lift to the trailhead and back
We drop you at the start in time for your SIMplifica slot and collect you at the end, so the car is never at the wrong end of a one-way trail.
